synagogue of my hometown Mihalyfalva in Transilvania

Ermihalyfalva Zsinagoga

This is the refurbished former main synagogue of my hometown Mihalyfalva in Transilvania, 3 Kms. from the Hungarian border, whose Jewish Cong. was whipped out by the Hungarians and the Germans during WWII. A former local Jew saved it from becoming a warehouse and the clip presents its commemoration where lady Bauer Magda is seen as the last Jew representing a prewar congregation of some 10,000 people. There is one more Jew left there married to a gentile Hungarian woman. Once they are gone the existence of a vibrant and influential Jewish congregation there will be gone forever. And the synagogue, will probably turn into an entertainment hall. Which leads me to the inevitable conclusion that Israel is the only place in the world where Jews should live and be the masters of their own destiny, not the Hungarians, Croats, Ukrainians, Germans, Romanians, Poles, Russians, etc., as for countries like the USA, Canada, Australia – you can never know…
